Coopeer Gap to Springer Mountain the Southern termunis of the AT, 12.3 miles
Total Mileage 2189.8
I did it!!! I hiked the whole Appalachian Trail in 172 days. If I had to be honest when I started the trail I didn’t think I would finish the whole thing. I didn’t think I wanted it bad enough to hike almost 22 hundred miles. I know I definitly wanted to finish the northern half and after finishing that I couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there and flip back down south. I hated hiking in New England the terrian was very rugged and with a pack on your back it takes the fun out of it.
Jim dropped HOOTIE and I off at Cooper Gap at 9 am and were off to becoming thru hikers this day. The day was beautiful, but a little to warm for hiking.
We met Jim and Berkley 1 mile from the top of Springer Mountain and they hike the remaining mile with me.
Today I am grateful for all of my friends and family that helped me finish the trail.
I am so totally thrilled for you!!!! You dug deep so many times into your reserves and YOU DID IT!! You now have this as a part of you the rest of your life.
Each of us who has followed your journey admire your determination and celebrate with you.
Please give us a PS or two in the future sometime, just to hear how post-hike life is going.
And now my email mailbox is going to be so boring.

The feet are sore but it is pretty minor and if I keep shoes on its not to bad.

And, darned you, now I’m inspired to try to do the whole thing in one blow next year, instead of starting from where I left off this year.
Hopefully this mood shall pass. π

I truly believe you will enjoy it more not doing it all at once and much kinder to the body.

Amy…Congratulations! I am so happy for you. When I think back on our meeting in Teahorse Hostel and now, now you’ve finished in Georgia after all these months. I, like Ruth, would still like to see posts from you post hike – when you’re ready. And, yes, thank you for taking the some of your precious time and energy writing and posting photos of your journey. I can’t believe you have finally finished – so proud of you.

Thanks Buzzcut, I plan to post again in a couple of weeks to let everyone know how I am doing after being in the woods for 6 months. I have to go back to work right away so it might be like a slap in the face.

Congratulations on completing your thru-hike. So many dream of doing just what you’ve accomplished and yet never even hit the trail. Perseverance is a great virtue. It was a delight to meet you a couple of times on the trail. This goes for Hootie, too. I hope our paths cross again in the future.
